Sole Proprietorship
This is the simplest form of business where a single individual owns, manages, and controls the business. There is no separate legal entity, and the owner has unlimited liability.
Although not mandatory to register with any central authority, proprietors may need to obtain licenses such as GST registration, MSME registration, or Shop and Establishment License depending on the nature of the business.
Limited liability Partnership
LLP
LLP combines the benefits of both a partnership firm and a company. Partners have limited liability, meaning they are not personally responsible for the debts of the firm.
LLPs must be registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) under the LLP Act, 2008. A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) and Director Identification Number (DIN) are required, along with a Certificate of Incorporation from the Registrar of Companies (RoC)
Private Limited Company
PVT LTD
Private Limited Company
This is a separate legal entity where shareholders have limited liability.
It is suitable for businesses planning to raise capital or scale operations.
It must be registered with the MCA under the Companies Act, 2013.
Key steps include obtaining DSC and DIN, reserving a company name, filing for incorporation, and getting a Certificate of Incorporation.

Public Limited Company PLC
A Public Limited Company allows shares to be traded publicly and offers more avenues for raising capital. The liability of shareholders is limited.
Registered under the Companies Act, 2013. The process is similar to that of a Private Limited Company but with stricter compliance requirements, including a minimum number of directors and shareholders.
Partnership Firm
A partnership firm is where two or more people join to carry out a business and share profits. The liability of partners is unlimited unless it’s a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP).
Registration under the Partnership Act, 1932 is optional but advisable to ensure legal benefits. The firm must also obtain GST registration, PAN, and other necessary licenses.

One Person Company (OPC)
An OPC allows a single entrepreneur to own a company with limited liability. This is a hybrid structure for small businesses seeking the benefits of corporate status without the need for partners.
It is incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013, similar to a Private Limited Company. It also requires DSC, DIN, and a Certificate of Incorporation from the RoC.

Section 8 Company (Non-Profit Organization)
This is a company formed for promoting charity, education, art, science, and other social causes. It does not distribute profits to its members.
It is registered under the Companies Act, 2013, with approval from the Central Government. The company must obtain a license under Section 8 of the Act and comply with legal regulations specific to non-profit entities.
Co-operative Society
A co-operative society is a voluntary association of individuals who come together for mutual benefit, usually in sectors like agriculture, retail, and housing.
Co-operative societies are registered under the Co-operative Societies Act of the respective state. The members have equal voting rights, and profits are distributed among members.
